Reading about Greedy Cat
Ruma Piwakawaka and Kakapo have been reading about Greedy Cat for Shared Reading. First we read Greedy Cat and then Lunch for Greedy Cat. We really enjoyed these two books. We then drew and coloured our own Greedy Cats. We used oil pastels, black vivid and dye to do our cats. Next we used the green thinking hat to come up with a new scenario. What if Greedy Cat went to the supermarket? What kind of food would he buy? We used supermarket flyers to cut out pictures and glued them on our cat's tummy to show what we thought he would buy. We had so much fun doing this.

Waikowhai Cross Country and Fun Run Day
Today was our Cross Country and Fun Run Day. We had been preparing for this for a long time. Even though it was quite cold and windy, we had an awesome time participating in all the different events. We had four different events that we had to complete- Run, Obstacle Course, Skipping and Kicking. Thank you Miss Sands for organising another amazing tiring but fun filled day. A big thank you to all the parents who came to support us.

2D and 3D shapes.
The Strand Maths for this term is Geometry. We have been looking at 2D and 3D shapes and learning about their different features. 2D shapes are flat but 3D shapes are solid shapes. They are three dimensional. We find lots of things that we use in our everyday lives that are 3D. We put on the Green Thinking Hats to create some pictures with a range of 2D shapes. Have a look.
What does Symmetry mean in Maths
We learnt that something that is symmetrical has corresponding similar parts: in other words, one side is the same as the other. If you draw a line down the centre of something and get two similar halves, it's symmetrical. Shapes like squares and circles are symmetrical. We decided to do some art to show our learning. First we folded an A3 paper into halves. Then we put blobs of different coloured paints on one half. Then we put the other half over and spread the paint with our hands. When we opened the paper, we found that we had created a symmetrical design on the other half.
Stay tuned to find out what we are going to do with our symmetrical art next. |
