Lockdown Learning and Fun

Piwakawaka have been working hard at home. I have been so happy to see most children at our Zoom meetings - today we even got to do a dance which was fun!  Children and parents have been sending me videos, photos and writing which they have been working on in lockdown. Let's have a look.

Paul has been doing his reading online and playing games from the Maths Pack.

Fraser has been baking, creating and learning to sew! Go Fraser.
Charlie C wrote a great story about the Easter Bunny.

Leeya drew a picture of a character from our shared story - Norvin was a cheeky actor!

Christopher has been doing some great colouring in and playing board games (which helps our learning in so many ways).

Charlie H has been working extra hard with his writing. Super capital letters and full stops, great sounding out and remember finger spaces YAY!

Quentin has been busy playing with the games in his Maths pack and also keeping up the writing in his Lockdown diary. I can't wait to see this when we get back to school!

Olivia has been helping Mum to cook!! Look at her reading that recipe book. Mum has promised to send some to school when we get back - haha.

Sarah's fabulous journal writing.

Today we read a book called 'Pet Shop'. I asked children to draw and write about a pet they would like - it could be anything in the world. Look at Maxwell's panda bear!

Here we are in our Zoom meetings.

  1. Wow Te Kohanga Ako - what amazing learning you have all been doing at home! It is really wonderful to see all of the photographs of you completing the learning tasks from school, as well as the fabulous activities you've been doing with your families. I will try to pop along to some of your class meetings next week to say hello. Look after all of the people and pets in your bubble. :-)

  3. Wow, Piwakawaka! You have all been so busy and learning in so many fun ways at home during lockdown.
Everyone is safe and working hard on their learning in my bubble too. Mr McLellan and I have had to learn all sorts of new skills to do our work from home, and my boys have had lots of fun as they learn what to do when they get bored of being in our bubble. I wonder, what is your favourite thing to do when you get bored?

  4. Super duper learners you are! Looks like you were listening to that story really well Maxwell and drew an excellent Panda. Imagine having a pet panda! Olivia you look like you really know how to cook. I reckon I could help eat those yummy balls too. So many cool activities happening in all your houses. Board games are awesome. Take care and keep smiling.

  6. Hello everyone,
Wow, what fabulous things you are all doing at home! It is great to see all those photos and I’m pleased that you are enjoying Miss Lane’s story reading and dancing sessions.
Have you been out to count the teddies in your street? I have spotted 12 in my road. Over Easter I made some sparkly Easter egg shapes to hang in the window too. Now I’m thinking about what to put up next. Do you have any ideas? Maybe some smiling emoji shapes or something for ANZAC day? Let me know what your ideas are.
Stay safe in your bubbles and keep up the good work.

    1. Hello Mrs Mackenzie, our family have cut out poppies and hung them in our window for Anzac day. We too have teddies in our windows and around 22 teddies we found in our street. We also coloured easter eggs that our Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern put out and we hung them in our windows. We have made posters thanking our essential workers and ones with #WeGotThisNZ. So you can imagine our windows are very colourful and full of celebration.

    2. Hello Leeya and whanau,
I’m pleased to hear that you have been busy decorating your house. I want to make some poppies for my window too. ( need to find some red paper in the craft cupboard!)I am also going to have a go at making a wreath for the gate with some greenery from my garden. I hope you are all helping Mum and Dad and that Mum’s ankle is getting better.

    3. Hello Mrs Mackenzie. I hope you can find some red cardboard. I like the sound of your wreath. Yes my sister, brother and I have been helping both mum and dad around the house. Mum is trying to rest as much as she can. She is a bit sore still.

We are staying safe in our bubble, hope you are safe in your bubble

  7. Kia Ora Piwakawaka, we are loving seeing all the other work you are all doing. Such great ideas and variety. I know Leeya has really enjoyed your zoom sessions. And looks forward to story time with Miss Lane. She has made herself feel like she is at school, by wearing her uniform even though we are at home.

I look forward to seeing more awesome photos of your lockdown school work.
    Bye for now
