Kakapo's Lockdown Learning

Kakapo has been really busy during this lockdown. We have been doing lots of learning while having fun in our Zoom meetings. Please have a look at some of the awesome work everyone has been doing for the different curriculum areas.

Nogard visualising activity

WALT create pictures in our minds as we read and think about

what we “see” as we read. We

had to use the following text to draw what a nogard looks like.

What is a nogard?

The nogard is an animal. It has an oval- shaped body. It has a long neck and tail. The top of the neck, back and tail are covered with a row of triangular-shaped plates. The nogard’s head is shaped like a long triangle. It has big eyes and eyebrows that stick out. It also has big nostrils. Its body is covered with scales. The nogard has four short legs. At the end of each leg is a foot with five toes. Each toe has a sharp claw at the end. The nogard has two wings attached to its body. These are located behind the front legs towards the top of its back. Nogards are usually green but change to a deep purple during the winter months.

Here are our creations.

In Math we have been learning about ordinal numbers. We had to draw an ice cream cone with 10 scoops. Then we had to follow the following instructions to colour the scoops in.

Colour the first scoop blue.

Colour the ninth scoop orange.

Colour the third scoop orange.

Colour the second scoop red.

Colour the fourth scoop blue.

Colour the eighth scoop red.

Colour the tenth scoop blue.

Colour the fifth scoop red.

Colour the sixth scoop orange.

Colour the seventh scoop blue.

For Reading, we read the story Pete the Cat. Then we used the green thinking hat and designed a pair of new rocking shoes for Pete to wear. We also drew Pete, labelled and wrote a description of him. Have a look at some of our work.

  3. Well done Kakapo, you are all doing some awesome learning in lockdown. I like the way you used your imagination and the story to create your Nogards.. I find imagining the story and pictures in my mind one of the best things about reading. Perhaps when an adult reads you a story you could try shutting your eyes and getting a picture of what is happening in your mind. Then the story and pictures become your very own.. give it a go. You may be surprised with what you can imagine!
