This week in Kereru, we read the story Ducks by Joy Cowley. This story is about five baby ducklings swimming away from their mother. While reading this story, we noticed that there was a lot of maths happening in the story so we decided to solve some maths equations using the book to help us.
We represented our numbers by grouping things we had around the house and were able to manipulate these to solve our equations.
Miss Velden also gave us some extra for experts which included adding and taking away with numbers up to 10.
Check out our maths superstars!
Ryan made his groups using his toy cars! He used them to show us the equation with the answers! Awesome work Ryan.
Sarah grouped her numbers using board game pieces! Look at her using her fingers to help add and subtract.
Look at Theo showing us his answers by grouping some counters! Amazing job Theo!
Look at how hard Bella is working at her equations! Your maths is proving so much Bella.
We then drew our own ducks, coloured them in and counted them. We wrote our numbers nice and big next to our pictures.

Lily-Teila did an amazing job of her equations! I love the way you showed us the different numbers by colouring in your circles! Good job!
Olivia Y used some Lego blocks to help her work out her equations. Your number formation is improving everyday Olivia!

Hi Keruru, It's great to hear that you guys are doing a lot of maths. You guys are improving a lot! I can clearly see that you guys are experts at maths. I ๐LOVE๐ the different objects you guys used to solve the equations. You guys are getting more and more creative. I also like the drawings you guys did. Keruru students are incredible drawers, that is VERY noticeable. I can see that you guys are very hard-working students, you guys are also mathmaticians.✏✏✏
ReplyDeleteMarvelious blogpost, even better... marvelious students and teachers. I love the fact that you guys are keeping those lovely smiles on your face. Keep up the amazing work Keruru. I give you......%100!!!
You guys truely deserve it, ka pai Keruru๐๐๐
Hi Kereru,
ReplyDeleteWhat great maths work you are doing. How clever to find things at home to help you with your counting. Those cars make great counters Ryan.
I also enjoyed your delightful drawings of the ducklings. You had looked carefully at the illustrations in the story to help you and then added your own creative ideas.
Keep up the great work. Stay safe in your bubble and be kind to your whanau.

Hi Kereru, what a great idea using the story to do some maths work. I love the different ways you used to do your adding. Pictures, objects, like cars and board a game pieces and maybe some fingers too. You are such hard workers with your 'at home' learning. Maybe you could create some addition problems for a friend or family member to do over Zoom or Google Hang Outs.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the wonderful work and we will see you when we are all back at school again.
Wow Kereru, Miss Velden and Whaea Anita have been having lots of fun with you. Can I say what an awesome way to include maths. Loved seeing the different things you used around your houses. I know Leeya and I have learnt alot about using things around the house that we already have during lockdown to continue learning.
ReplyDeleteLook forward to seeing what this weeks learning brings.
Kereru, your Maths work and your duck drawings with the numbers underneath show how hard you have been working and what experts you are. I like the way each of you used different toys, counters, objects and fingers at home to support your work. Keep up your amazing work and I look forward to seeing your next posts.
